I was on an old music kick and found that Mark Edward (My Dad is Dead) is streaming all his out-of-print albums. Very cool.

Unison
If you're on a Mac take a look at Unison.
"Why the fuck would i do that, Dick?"
"It's a usenet reader."
"BOOOOOOOORING."
"You're right. It's slow too. Took almost half an hour to crawl the the 'alt.mp3.complete-cd' group. The 'alt.mp3.punk' and 'alt.mp3. indie' were almost as bad. All that music was getting in the way of conversations i wanted to have with Linux enthusiasts."

Joementum
Are americans properly laughing at "JOEMENTUM" enough? I'm not around media enough these days to monitor the level of national derision.
That's as "good" a national tag line as "Where's the beef?", "Is that your final anwer?", "Wazzzaaaaaap?!", or "I did not have sex with that woman!".

This guy writes a weekly column for the SF Chronicle about his adventures as a cabbie. Not as gritty as it could be, but a pretty good read when you consider the paper.

Suggestion:
I love all our dead people up on the banner as much as the next guy, but what say for the new year we no longer have a parade of corpses on the page, no?
Perhaps we can each submit a piece of art that McFreeze can size and then add to the banner, like DaveL's pink eye, etc.
Any comments?

Temporary Outage
As of 5pm Friday, January 9th, I will no longer be a resident of big D. I will hop on a greyhound to seek greener pastures in Austin TX [although based on the previous post apparently those pastures aren't that green]!
I will be back in bidness on this site and on email in the coming weeks. My folks gimme a new imac laptop, and apparently austin has many wy-fy hauses to suit my needs, as i will likely be living on porches and couches, in slpng bgs, outdoors, etc, and not have real solid walls for myself for a little while.
i'm excited about this new adventure, and i'd love to see all yall at sxsw!

"John Oudt, the owner of the Baja Fresh franchise on the Drag, said he had no idea the frog was anything more than graffiti. He said he would lose money if he tried to preserve the mural at such late notice."
Yeah, I guess that WOULD be a hard thing to research before you moved in, wouldn't it? And God forbid you were to lose money....
I'm really beginning to hate what this town is becoming.

Acid Art
These 9 drawings were done by an artist under the influence of LSD -- part of a test conducted by the US government during it's dalliance with psychotomimetic drugs in the late 1950's. The artist was given a dose of LSD 25 and free access to an activity box full of crayons and pencils. His subject is the medico that jabbed him.

Kinks Singer Davies Shot In Robbery
Suspect In Custody; Another Still Loose
POSTED: 1:08 p.m. EST January 5, 2004
Singer-songwriter Ray Davies is recovering from a gunshot wound suffered Sunday night in New Orleans. Davies, frontman of the classic rock group the Kinks, was chasing two thieves who snatched a purse from a woman he was walking with in the French Quarter.
According to police, the 59-year-old Davies and the woman were walking along the Quarter's Burgundy Street around 8:30 p.m. when the theft and shooting occurred.
Davies was not seriously wounded. Police say he was treated at a hospital and released. One suspect was captured within hours of the shooting and another is being sought. With the Kinks, Davies has recorded such hits as "Lola," "You Really Got Me" and "Come Dancing." Davies and legendary rocker Eric Clapton were made Commanders of the Order of the British Empire just last week by Queen Elizabeth II in London
