The Offenders, continued...

Saturday night the Offenders played at SXSW. For those wanting a faithful circa-'83 peformance, the Offenders delivered since JJ was thrown in jail the night before and couldn't make bail for the show. They carried on anyway, with another guy singing JJ's parts.
I seem to recall this happened a fair amount "back in the day", so I was kind of impressed by their attention to detail.
I saw a lot of great stuff this year at SXSW, by the way.
My favorite bands:
High on Fire - kind of like a stoned Motorhead with a ton of distortion. Inspiring.
Acid Mothers Temple - Jim Coffey would call this "acid rock". From Japan
Major Stars - see "Acid Mothers Temple". From Boston.
Kinski - see "Major Stars". From Seattle.
Easy Action - the singer from Laughing Hyenas, bass player from the Necros, punk and blusey and just great.
Cutthroats 9 - the singer and guitar player from Unsane, sounding like Unsane.
Polyphonic Spree - 4th time I've seen them. 25 piece choir and orchestra from Dallas doing kindergarden psychedelia a la Flaming Lips.
