Boox on Punx

posted by Kong on December 21, 2001

Christ, I quit reading last year so I can spend more time watching porn and now I realize there's like 20 books on American punk that have come out recently.

THE book I want to read when it comes out is the story of the Germs, Lexicon Devil by the drummer Don Bolles and Brendan Mullen.

For instance, is it really true that post-Germs Darby Crash came back from the UK as a convert to Adam and the Ants, dressed in pirate gear regalia, and was massively riduculed by the LA punks for it? Supposedly this led into his depression before the suicide.

But beyond the Germs, there's these books:

We Got the Neutron Bomb : The Untold Story of L.A.

Punk

American Hardcore: A Tribal History - which I'm quoted in during the Texas section, it's kind of fun but also not that great.

Forming: The Early Days of L.A. Punk - written in part by John Doe and Excene Cervenka, it looks great.

PUNK '77: an Inside Look at the San Francisco Rock 'N' Roll Scene, 1977

There's other new-to-me punk books out, but really it's the Germs story that I really want to read.
